Surrey is rapidly acquiring popularity among new immigrants, and for good reasons. It’s part of the Greater Vancouver area, presenting a blend of urban and suburban lifestyles. Economically, Surrey is booming with options in various sectors like technology, healthcare, and education. The quality of life here is fantastic, and it has excellent schools, healthcare facilities, and multiple parks and recreational areas. If you’re eager to make Surrey your permanent residence, the Express Entry evaluation program could be your way to Canadian citizenship.
The Express Entry system is an economic immigration program for skilled and qualified workers to acquire a Permanent Residency in Canada. Canada’s Express Entry system was introduced in 2015 to organize immigration applications for various immigration programs operated by the Express Entry System. To be evaluated for these programs, candidates must first submit an Express Entry profile to the pool of candidates. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) then organizes all the profiles against each other and provides each prospect a CRS score out of 1200 points.
Eligibility And Requirements For Express Entry
Based on your profile, you will obtain a score and become a part of the pool of candidates who have completed their Express Entry profile. Once you receive your score and join the prospect pool, you must update your information and look for options to improve your score. This will increase your chances of acquiring an invitation for Canadian permanent residence. Finally, if you are selected, you will be invited to apply, and you must submit a comprehensive set of documents with the information you provided. These documents will contain reference letters, additional identity documents, police clearance certificates, and medical examination outcomes. To apply through Express Entry, you must qualify under one of these programs:
Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
This is for individuals with foreign work experience and high education levels.
Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
This is for skilled tradespeople with job offers or certifications in Canada.
Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
This is for Canadian work experience.
Steps to Apply for Express Entry
Creating an Express Entry Profile
Create an online profile on the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website. Provide details about your skills, work experience, language ability, education, and other personal information.
Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) Score
Your profile is ranked using the CRS. Your score is out of 1,200 points, and factors like age, education, work experience, and language skills influence it.
Receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA)
If your CRS score is high sufficiently, you’ll receive an ITA. Once you get this, you have 60 days to submit a complete application for permanent residence.
Documents Required for Express Entry
- Proof of Work Experience
- Documents like employment letters that detail your job role, salary, and duration of employment.
- Language Proficiency Tests
- Results from approved language tests like IELTS or CELPIP for English, or TEF for French.
- Educational Credential Assessment (ECA)
- An ECA report from an approved agency to verify that your foreign education is equivalent to Canadian standards.
How many ITAs were published in the first six months of 2024?
In the first six months of 2024, IRCC has held 19 Express Entry draws, allocating 41,855 ITAs to immigration prospects. Express Entry Draw classes so far have included:
- General;
- French language proficiency;
- Healthcare occupations;
- Agriculture and Agri-food occupations;
- Transport occupations;
- Science, Technology Engineering, and Math (STEM) occupations;
- PNP; and
- CEC specific.
Additional draw types in 2024 are the outcome of Express Entry category-based preferences. This is a new policy within the Express Entry system, allowing candidates who prepare in one of six classes to be invited to apply for Canadian permanent residence (PR) based on their inclusion. Less preference is given to CRS scores in these examples.
