Provincial Nomination under Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program
Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program
The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) allows this province to nominate individuals having skill-sets and experience for contributing to Ontario’s economy. It helps in meeting the labor market and economic growth needs of Ontario while providing permanent residence to nominated individuals.
The OINP is operated under the collaborative efforts of Ontario and the federal government through IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada). The OINP nominates candidates for permanent residence and assesses applications.
Individuals who receive nominations under the OINP can apply for permanent residence. IRCC has the final say on each application and successful applicants are issues permanent residence visas by the IRCC.
Nominations under OINP
Individuals meeting all the requirements of the OINP can get nominated as Provincial Nominees by this province for permanent residence.
Nominated candidates need to apply to IRCC after which the latter performs relevant admissibility checks (for health and security) to grant permanent residence to them. Nominated candidates are also allowed to apply for a temporary work permit to the IRCC while waiting for the processing of their permanent residence application.
Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program: Employers
OINP is meant to help employers facing difficulty in hiring qualified and skilled workers in Ontario. Employers who are approved can hire foreign workers through the General Category and the International Student with a Job Offer.
It allows employers to—
- Make an application for approval of permanent, full-time positions to be filled by foreign workers;
- Hire foreigners for filling these positions.
Employers must submit a Pre-Screen Application to OINP to get approval for the position they want to fill. After approval of the Pre-Screen application, the foreign worker/qualifying international student should submit a Nominee Application within a period of 60 days (after approval).
International Student with a Job Offer Stream
OINP offers an opportunity to international students having a job offer to live permanently and work in Ontario. The applicant can apply if he or she has got an approved and a permanent offer of full-time job from any Ontario employer, or from any business making an approved and endorsed investment in this Canadian province.
International Students: Masters Graduates and International PhD Graduates streams
Those applying in the International students-Masters Graduate/PhD Graduates stream are allowed to apply to OINP directly. They should be living in Ontario and must have the intention to live and settle permanently in Ontario.
Investors’ participation in OINP
Endorsed investors can hire foreign workers through the General Category. They can have certain leading employees get permanent residence in Ontario.
